There are different degrees to live an amazing life.
Think about the society that we have now and the freedoms that we have.
If we see a problem ahead (any kind of theoretical) then the best way to prevent it from happening is to prevent the cause.
We may still be able to live in a pretty good world but if I knew my kids were going to live in a world of misery and poverty then would I still take the steps to create them for my own personnel happiness or spare them this experience by preventing their existence.
However, the more I think about it, is it humans ourselves harming the planet? Or is it the consumer society we have created?
I don't think the problem is so much with how many of us there are, I think the problem is who we have become as a society, really we only need basics to survive, if we consumed less fossil fuels and were less materialistic as a society, we wouldn't have to control the population in that sense, more control it in a sense of changing our outlook and how we think about the future.

Would it be that great a loss of freedom to be told we have to control our breeding if we kept all the others?
It is a sobering question! Yet it seems to be a future reality.
